I like the discussion on exerting more monopsony power from the block.

I’ve commented this on this blog before, but I think a quick treatment on the Laffer/Tainter curves would be helpful re/ tax policy; in my view, it’s a point of enormous misunderstanding and comparative negative impact imbedded in EU member tax law.

Cheers for the comment.

Yeah, we're definitely not going for BBLR in the EU! I might write about Laffer but then I just think people don't want to hear it(?). Tax is perhaps viewed as about fairness than about what would maximise welfare.... People in Europe would perhaps prefer to pay E100 if it means that top earners made E200 less. Maybe too cynical a take and def a wild generalisation.

I think you’re largely correct, but that still doesn’t mean that their axiology is mostly wrong and self-defeating. You made your money in US for a reason (correct me if that’s wrong), and it may be instructive to some to underscore why that is.

Obviously EUeans are more sensitive to relative welfare “losses” than to absolute gains, but showing why that’s a misaligned value system wouldn’t be a complete exercise in futility IMO.

Yeah, that's a fair comment. The onus is indeed to make the case, and I agree that is worthwhile. I will keep it top of pile for a follow-up piece or inclusion. Your point on relative losses is good too.
